Usually, banks are the ones charging fees.
Not so in this case.
Many banks will be forced to pay fees to Microsoft, as they have gone past a deadline to upgrade outdated ATM software.
Most of these are important security upgrades; needed to protect against malware. Considering the recent Target security breach, one would think that banks would move quickly to add security upgrades.
A spokesman for Microsoft said “There are certainly large enterprise customers who haven’t finished their migrations yet and are purchasing custom support…The cost will depend on both the specific needs of the customer and what support they already have in place, so it’s different for every customer.”
