If you are the owner of an ASUS Transformer Pad TF300 tablet, there is some great news in store – your device will be receiving an Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update…today!

The excellent 4.2 Jelly Bean is Android’s best operating system to date, packed with cool features such as the new gesture keyboard, lock screen widgets, multi-user, and the brilliant Google Now, which might not be new to 4.2, but does boast some excellent new additions such as location based alerts for attractions and events.

The over-the-air update is being rolled out today in the U.S. with other markets following by the end of March, and makes the Transformer the first non-Google device to receive the software.

Owners of the Transformer Pad Infinity may well have expected their higher-end tablets to be the first to benefit from any such Jelly Bean update; however, it is the budget buyers that are being rewarded before anybody else. The reason for this could well be because of its popularity: “The Asus Transformer Pad TF300 is one of the most successful ASUS tablets to date and offers a full notebook PC experience when attached to the innovative mobile dock,” the Taiwanese firm said to PC Advisor.

ASUS has said that he Infinity and other devices such as the MeMo Pad and Smart 10-inch will receive the update sometime during Q2, but owners of the Transformer Prime might not be as lucky, with the 10.1-inch device not listed amongst those to get 4.2.

The TF300 may lack the screen resolution and performance capabilities of some of its higher priced siblings, but ASUS has proven their software support to be outstanding once again by offering users the latest version of Jelly Bean. There is no word yet on which build the Transformer Pad will receive, but a wise guess would be 4.2.2.
