Facebook, taking keen note of their prior success in the gaming space, has made a move that will keep them on the cutting edge in terms of gaming, and in the process, satisfy their game-playing members thirst for new games to entertain them.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a press release “Mobile is the platform of today, and now we’re also getting ready for the platforms of tomorrow.” He added “Oculus has the chance to create the most social platform ever, and change the way we work, play and communicate.”
Brendan Iribe, co-founder and CEO of Oculus VR said “We are excited to work with Mark and the Facebook team to deliver the very best virtual reality platform in the world.” He added “We believe virtual reality will be heavily defined by social experiences that connect people in magical, new ways. It is a transformative and disruptive technology, that enables the world to experience the impossible, and it’s only just the beginning.”
Facebook is hoping to finalize and close the deal sometime during the second quarter.
Oculus, already quite popular, having received 75,000 orders for their virtual reality headset, are sure to see their popularity reach stratospheric heights, levels of which were unimaginable prior to this acquisition.
