In a long battle over in-app purchases, Apple has reached a settlement with the FTC. The company has agreed to reimburse customers $32 million over in-app purchases made by children, without the knowledge or approval of their parents. In addition, Apple has agreed to modify the language of its agreement with users, to make it clearer.
At issue was the 15-minute window during which app-users could charge unlimited purchases on one password entry, during app usage. Parents were left unaware of the scope of volume and expense that could entail. In one case, a girl racked up $2600 in purchases while using “Tap Pet Hotel”.
