Google Chrome Gets iOS Update

Google has announced a new update for its Chrome iOS app, bringing it in line with the Android version of the browser; and as expected, it comes with a couple of useful new features.

First up for version 31 of the web browser is the benefit of fast form completion thanks to Autofill. If you use Chrome on your desktop then you will already be familiar with how Autofill works, allowing you to fill out form information quickly and easily thanks to Google remembering your details. By signing in to your Google account, Chrome will automatically sync your data from your computer to your iOS device, making filling out forms on the smaller screen even easier.

“Tired of filling out web forms with the same information time and time again? The Autofill feature lets you complete forms with just a few clicks. Sign in to sync this data from your computer to your iPhone or iPad and save even more typing,” Google said in its changelog for the app.

Google has also introduced easy related image search, whereby all you need to do to initiate a search is hold an image with a long press. That will automatically take you to the Google Images search engine, where you can check out similar pictures.

Elsewhere, the latest version of Chrome brings with it the obligatory stability and security improvements and bug fixes.

Version 31 of Chrome marks the first update since Google revised the app with an iOS 7-inspired design back in September. Latest figures from research firm Chikita suggest that Chrome now accounts for 3 per cent of all iOS Web traffic – its highest total since its release back in mid-2012.
