Have you ever looked up a place online and made your way over, only to find that it’s no longer open?
Google wants to relieve your stress in that area with an update to one of their most popular apps.
The company announced that the latest update to Google Maps will tell users if the place they’re trying to get to will close or has closed already.
This information is fueled by data collected via your Gmail in regards to your travels if you have flight reservations for example.
The user is then given the warning of the place about to close and the option of going ahead and trying to arrive or choosing another destination.
The update comes at a key time where their main rival, Apple, has been steadily making improvements to their own Maps app which has experienced a few bugs since its launch in 2012.
The new Google Maps update also is a beacon for the fact that both companies are making these adjustments with the future of autonomous driving on the horizon; Google has been testing their autonomous vehicles extensively, while Apple has begun research under a cloak of secrecy.
