It’s been one year since Google rebranded its Android Market as Google Play, and to mark the occasion the company has decided to lavish users with a series of offers that will extend over the next week.

Launched with the tag line “Our Gifts to You”, the week-long promotion will see Android users receive various discounts, gift cards and exclusive in-game content, as described in the following blurb on the dedicated page:

It was just a year ago today that we launched this amazing shop on the interwebs to offer the best in digital content. Since the best parties are the ones that send you home with a present, today we celebrate our birthday with a festive goodie bag full of gifts. Don’t delay in picking up these limited-time offers. It’s been an incredible first year and we look forward to sharing the gift of digital diversions for many more to come.”

The birthday gifts will vary depending on your particular market, with U.S. Android users currently able to claim 50% off Kung Fu Panda, A Quest of Heroes by Morgan Rice, 10% off bookings on, a $15 gift card for The Fancy, in-app savings on Royal Revolt, a new character in the game Yumby Smash, and a new location in Disney’s Gnome Village.

Okay, so these offers might not be all that enticing, but this is only the first day of the promotion so there’s bound to be something that takes your fancy over the coming week as more developers arrive at the party.

To help you get into the birthday spirit, Google Play has posted a YouTube video featuring several developers talking about their birthday app creations and wishing the former Android Market Happy Birthday.
