Last week LG pulled the covers off the new range of L Series II devices, showing the world its new handsets ahead of what was widely expected to be a first showing at Mobile World Congress. While these second-generation L3, L5 and L7 phones are certainly of interest, they are merely playing second fiddle to the real device that everyone is waiting to see: LG Optimus G Pro. Speculation about the predecessor to the Optimus G and its specs has been building for some time, but with MWC 2013 just days away, surely LG wouldn’t be giving out any information? Well, this is LG we’re talking about, and rather than waiting a week to show off the G Pro in all its glory, the company has done us the pleasure of unveiling the device in full, debuting it in Korea yesterday!

In a news release on the LG pressroom, the Korean company says that its first full HD smartphone will still make its expected appearance at MWC, but has been made available to the Korean public this week.

In terms of looks, the G Pro looks very much like its predecessor (which owes a lot to the design of Samsung’s devices), but has one glaringly obvious difference – a 5.5-inch full HD IPS 1920 x 1080 pixel display that boasts 400 ppi! Powered by Android Jelly Bean, the device is the first smartphone to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor, which clocks 1.7GHz and should provide some serious power.

Other standout specs include 13-MP camera on the back, a 2.1-MP snapper on the front, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and a largest-in-class 3,140mAh battery that LG says will allow for “for full HD viewing enjoyment for hours on end.”

The Optimus G Pro comes with new UX features that have been specifically developed for the device and includes Dual Recording and Virtual Reality (VR) Panorama, both of which can be tested by visitors to LG’s booth at MWC.

LG also confirmed that latest flagship device will get a North American release in Q2 of this year, although no specific date was given. Until an official release date is confirmed, here’s a rundown of the specs from the press release for you to salivate over:

• Chipset: 1.7GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 600 Processor

• Memory: 32GB / microSD (up to 32GB)

• Display: 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels / 400ppi)

• Battery: 3,140mAh (removable / wireless charging capable)
