Mobile device-owning comic book fans of the world rejoice – Marvel has launched a new Spotify-style service just for you!
Marvel likes to look after its fans, and as many of these fans now walk around with smartphones and tablets in tow, the comic book giant has decided to bring its Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited web based service directly to the handsets of superhero enthusiasts.
Marvel Unlimited is available now for iPhone and iPad and gives users access to a back catalog of over 13,000 comic book issues for $10 per month, or, a “limited time” annual subscription of just $60 ($5 per month). Marvel fans have been crying out for an app like this for some time, and it does not disappoint, boasting a vast library of issues, each sorted by character, series, creator, event, and release date, and all available to download via Wi-Fi and cellular at your convenience. The app also makes it possible to store up to six issues at once for offline reading.
Users that don’t fancy shelling out the monthly subscription fee can still use the app to enjoy the numerous free full issues available.
Marvel recently rolled out an HTML5 reader version for their web based service and this is merely an extension of that; however, being an app means that it is much more convenient to use. The colors of the issues look excellent on the iPhone/iPad’s Retina Display and the pinch-zoom feature makes focusing in on specific panels easy. The app also allows for easy swiping through pages, with a slider to jump to a certain part of the comic. Another touch with this release is the way that comics are displayed in the menus, each represented by the issue cover, print and release date and artist. This makes comic selection very easy for users.
Marvel Unlimited is currently only available for iOS, although, Gizmodo has reported that the Android release is expected to follow soon.
