Respecting the interest of consumers is paramount to Microsoft as they begin work on technology set to replace cookies, and track across Windows, Bing, and Xbox.
By using their own tracking technologies, Microsoft joins other industry giants in what has been called by Firefox and Internet Explorer – for years – “Do Not Track”. Third-party cookies used by advertisers and their agencies to track web browsing activity are under attack. Microsoft, using a broad scope, is working on a technology that could track users across Windows computers, Bing, Internet Explorer, Windows Phone devices, and Xbox consoles in order to serve highly targeted ads. Most importantly is that Microsoft fills the gaps where cookies fall short, as they go beyond the cookie, like on mobile and consoles and streaming video devices – where they have limited to no ability at all to track user activity.
