MP3tunes Creator Must Pay $41 million For Copyright ViolationsThe founder of MP3tunes, Michael Robertson, must pay $41 million in copyright fees, as determined by a jury.

Robertson, who founded MP3tunes in 2005, who, in addition to MP3tunes; was found personally liable for the violations of copyright, was hit with the huge sum yesterday.

Robertson is also the founder of MP3.com, a web pioneer in online music. MP3.com was founded by Robertson in 1997.

Martin Bandier, head honcho at Sony/ATV Music Publishing, said “Sony/ATV Music Publishing commends the jury on their careful consideration of the facts and their decision in the MP3Tunes.com case…the judicial process has worked in favor of the songwriter and demonstrated a respect for the copyrights laws…we will continue to vigorously pursue action against those who have disregarded the copyright laws of the works entrusted in our care.”
