MP3tunes Creator Must Pay $41 million For Copyright ViolationsThe founder of MP3tunes, Michael Robertson, must pay $41 million in copyright fees, as determined by a jury.

Robertson, who founded MP3tunes in 2005, who, in addition to MP3tunes; was found personally liable for the violations of copyright, was hit with the huge sum yesterday.

Robertson is also the founder of, a web pioneer in online music. was founded by Robertson in 1997.

Martin Bandier, head honcho at Sony/ATV Music Publishing, said “Sony/ATV Music Publishing commends the jury on their careful consideration of the facts and their decision in the case…the judicial process has worked in favor of the songwriter and demonstrated a respect for the copyrights laws…we will continue to vigorously pursue action against those who have disregarded the copyright laws of the works entrusted in our care.”
