For the avid Netflix subscribers, there will soon be a bit of extra programming with your shows. The advertising kind.
The largest streaming subscription service on the planet has begun to implement promotional spots for its own original programming into their service.
The ads, mainly for their “Orange Is The New Black” and Marvel’s “Daredevil” series, can be seen on those subscribers using Tivo DVR boxes, Xbox One gaming consoles and Roku streaming media players.
Some users have reported seeing the ads before and after shows.
With advertising offered in this fashion, the main concern is if more advertising will become a deluge on the site.
Netflix’s CEO, Reed Hastings, stated emphatically to that point: “No advertising coming onto Netflix. Period. Just adding relevant cool trailers for other Netflix content you are likely to love.”
The original programming teasers are just another step in Netflix’s own evolution as a streaming platform that has grown to provide content to its 60 million customers.
So much so that their investment in original programming has risen 88 percent to the tune of $450 million this year.
There is also no word on if Netflix intends to make the teasers available to all subscribers and their respective devices.
