It is not as economically feasible as it may seem, especially if one is a casual PS4/Xbox One player, as the price for game consoles in China is steep despite a lifting of the ban of domestic sale for these gaming items by the Chinese government. The market ban has been lifted for game consoles manufactured in Shangai’s new FTZ/free trade zone.
A little mathematical translation observing Taobao, the biggest online seller, reveals that they have Sony’s PS4 for 566 and Microsoft’s Xbox One for USD 656 (sales figures in USD are approximations).
The only spendthrifts in China are likely to be game playing fanatics. Piracy is rampant on many levels in China, as it is, with pirated games high on the list but very low in price.
