Nokia’s range of budget Asha smartphones has been given a new addition today in the shape of the Asha 310.
The Asha range has proven very successful for Nokia in emerging markets and the 310 promises to be the best yet. Announcing the handset on the Conversations blog, the Asha 310 is the Finnish smartphone maker’s first dual-SIM device, offering the chance for users to switch between SIMs and Wi-Fi connection, and the flexibility to “use the right SIM card for the right purpose.”
Writing on the company’s official blog, Nokia’s Ian Delaney claims that the Asha 310 “has Dual SIM on steroids” featuring the Easy Swap Dual SIM technology present in other dual-SIM smartphones and making switching between SIMs and tariffs for work and personal use as simple as possible.
Away from that obvious selling point, the Asha 310 features a scratch proof 3-inch WQVGA display, a 2-MP camera, 20MB internal memory, 32GB MicroSD card support, Bluetooth 3.0, up to 25 days standby and 17 hours of talk time. Nokia also announced that the phone will come with a 2GB or 4GB MicroSD card, although which one will depend on the market.
Most smartphone users like to stay connected at all times and as well as offering the chance to swap between SIM cards, the Asha 310 allows users to offset data use by connecting to local wireless access points. Other buyer-tempting features include the latest Nokia Xpress Browser, which Nokia says can “compress data by up to 90 per cent,” 40 free EA games, and a host of pre-loaded apps including Facebook, Twitter, eBuddy and Nokia Maps.
It was reported last month that the Asha line up is selling at twice the rate of the flagship Nokia Lumia range with sales reaching 9.3 million in the fiscal fourth quarter. It is these sorts of sales figures that Nokia will be relying on while it continues to promote the Lumia in western markets.
Nokia says the Asha 310 will be rolled out in Asia, Africa, Brazil and the Middle East later in the first quarter and will come in three color variations (black, white and golden light) for a very respectable $102.
