OpenStreetMap Takes On Google MapsOpenStreetMap is similar to Wikipedia, in that users produce and edit content.

OpenStreetMap takes a smidgen of Google’s Map Maker tool.

Craigslist is using OpenStreeetMap for apartment searches.

Other examples? Foursquare with Mapbox, Germany’s Skobbler, and even Apple have gotten onboard OSM.

Why not just use Google Maps?

Two reasons:

1. Quality

2. Price
