Pandora, the hugely popular music streaming service, has continued its recent focus on Android with the release of a tablet-optimized app update.
Pandora has been accused of neglecting Android somewhat over the years, with update and improvements infrequent, and Google Play users have been frustrated over the lack of a tablet interface. With the release of version 5.0, the radio and music recommendation service aims to put things right.
The new update is being rolled out to service users in the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand, and is designed to make the most of the bigger screen, with the same features that are included on Android phones and iOS app.
“The launch of Pandora 5.0 for Android tablets offers a significantly upgraded experience for an important segment of Pandora listeners,” said Pandora Chief Technology Officer and EVP of Product, Tom Conrad in a statement. “The tablet category continues to demonstrate strong growth and as a top Android app, Pandora now natively supports hundreds of different Android tablets. We’re delighted to deliver our Android users an optimized tablet app that will take them on a new journey of personalized music discovery, exploration, and sharing.”
Users of Pandora version 5.0 will find an experience that mimics the iPad, with features including enhanced listening and personalization, deeper music discovery and exploration, easier access to a personalized music profile, and simpler social sharing.
The company has also introduced new branding, with an updated logo and app icon.
Android’s tablet market share continues to grow at a considerable rate and it has been estimated to make up 60 percent of the market, according to market research and analysis company IDC. Coupled with the fact that Apple has become a rival to Pandora in the music-streaming realm with its iTunes Radio, it makes perfect sense for the company to want to get friendlier with users of the Google operating system and expand its listener base.
If you are an Android tablet owner and want to check out the new app, you can download the latest version of Pandora right now from the Google Play Store.
