Ben Silbermann, co-founder and CEO of Pinterest is exploring it’s first paid advertising product, Promoted Pins, today with “select businesses” reports Mashable. The first of those advertisements will go live today.
Promoted Pins are akin to Facebook’s Promoted Posts and Twitter’s Promoted Tweets ad products. To top the search results and category feeds is essentially what businesses are paying for.
Promoted Pins will blend in? Hmm… The inability to differentiate paid pins and non-paid pins on a page – as per planned – has it advantages but, at the same time the lack of a marker or obvious “sponsored” tag will lead to eyebrows/questions being raised as to what’s what.
