T-Mobile to Sell iPhone 5 for $99 From April 12For so long, fans of T-Mobile and the iPhone have been hard done by. Having seen the iPhone 5 launched in a blaze of glory last year on rival carriers AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and Sprint, T-Mobile was a little boy lost, sitting back and watching while all of the major carriers lapped up new customers. Well, after a long wait, T-Mobile has finally made the announcement its customers were waiting for – the iPhone 5 will be available from April 12.

At its Uncarrier press event in New York on Tuesday, T-Mobile CEO John Legere took the stage to talk of how the lack of an iPhone “was such a huge void in our device portfolio,” and now that it’s here, T-Mobile will offer customers the best deals, being the only carrier to offer unlimited talk, texts and Web.

Starting from 12 April, the iPhone 5 will be available on T-Mobile’s 4G network for $99 up front, and $20 per month on a two-year contract. Customers will be free to leave during that time, although installments will still need to be paid.

“This is an important day for people who love their iPhone but can’t stand the pain other carriers put them through to own one,” said Legere in a statement. “We feel their pain. I’ve felt the pain. So we’re rewriting the rules of wireless to provide a radically simple, affordable iPhone 5 experience — on an extremely powerful network.”

The CEO also took the time to address T-Mobile’s rivals and pulled no punches doing so. “Please, stop the bullshit,” he said in reference to competitors, which require customers to sign contracts to get discounts on phones. “Carriers are really nice to you… once every 23 months.” Well, T-Mobile did have a lot of frustration to vent and I guess taking it out on your rivals is a good a place as any to start!

T-Mobile will offer its high-speed 4G network service to customers in seven major cities: Las Vegas, Houston, Kansas, San Jose, Washington D.C., Phoenix, and Baltimore.
