The New York Times Website Goes Down In Likely Hack AttackThe New York Times website went down earlier today in an apparent hacking attack.

According to a report in the The Washington Post, the attack appears to be the work of a group calling itself “The Syrian Electronic Army.”

The group has also claimed a simiar attack against Twitter — some Twitter users are reporting some difficulties.

Times spokeswoman Eileen Murphy said that the outage is likely due to a “malicious external attack.” “The site is down for some. We are working to fix the problem. Our initial assessment is that this is most likely the result of a malicious external attack,” she said.

The attack against the Times appears to have been of a type affecting their DNS servers.
