If your website or blog is not related to news, it becomes necessary to remove the date from Google SERPs in WordPress. It has two advantages. The first is that it increases the click-through rate on search engine results pages. Secondly, it gives you more space on your Meta description.
Removing the date from search engines is possible via two primary ways. The first way is by using code (For Genesis), while the second method is by using Plugin (For Any WordPress Themes). Below are the steps, which explain the two methods:
1. Remove Date From SERP with the help of Genesis
You have to first log in to the admin panel of your WordPress.
Once you have logged in, go to Appearance>>Editor.
The third step is to click on the function.php. Click it from the right side of the existing page.
Now you have to find the code below on your function.php file:
remove_action( ‘genesis_before_post_content’, ‘genesis_post_info’); add_action(‘genesis_before_post_title’, ‘genesis_post_info’ );
Now remove the line below from the code:
add_action>( ‘genesis_before_post_title’, ‘genesis_post_info’ );
In case you are using any other child theme, you may not find the above code. In that case, you have to paste the following code to function.php:
remove_action( ‘genesis_before_post_content’, ‘genesis_post_info’ );
The last step would be to click on the Update File Button.
2. Remove Date From SERP Using Plugin
The second way of removing Date from SERP is by using a plugin called date exclusion SEO. This is an efficient plugin that has not been updated in the last 2 years. But, it functions smoothly on WordPress 3.8. This plugin would suit those who are not at all familiar with the code and are new to this field.
To use this plugin, you first need to install and activate the date exclusion SEO plugin.
Once done, go to Settings>>Date Exclusion SEO
Now remove Date snippet from Search engines.
Lastly, click on “Save changes” button to save it.
