Uber Looks To Acquire Nokia’s Digital Mapping Service HereThe on-demand car service and technology company Uber has recently made changes to its policies which have resulted in an effective ban on firearms in its cars.

The new policy in part reads: “We seek to ensure that everyone using the Uber digital platform…feels safe and comfortable.”

The ban on guns being carried in their vehicles by passengers and drivers was reported last Wednesday as news broke of the horrible shootings within the historically African-American Emanuel A.M.E. Church by a 21-year old white male that took the lives of nine churchgoers including their pastor.

Uber took pains to stress that the policy actually came into effect a week earlier.

The new measure comes in the wake of passenger complaints about safety and incidents involving their drivers that include theft, assault and rape, many which have been publicized and in one case, compiled in an online database.

Uber stated that they made the policy adaptation “after assessing existing policies and carefully reviewing recent feedback from both riders and driver-partners.”
