$10.5 million was raised by more than 22,500 people on the IndieGogo crowdfunding site, for an Ubuntu-powered smartphone.
$21.5 million still needs to be raised to meet the goal of $32 million to make the project happen.
Mark Shuttleworth, the founder of Ubuntu, stated in a video “Since we’re working with industry already, and since millions of you have are passionate about the latest and greatest phone technology — software and hardware — we’re in a perfect position to change the way innovation comes to the mobile industry,”
The phone will have a 4.5 inch display, and a mostly metal body.
“Ubuntu will arrive on mid and high level phones in mid 2014, right on schedule,” Shuttleworth said.
Well, just as long as the fundraising goal is met.
