Xbox One SmartGlass App Launches Ahead of New Console ReleaseWith the Xbox One launch just days away, Microsoft is doing its best to build up the hype with the release of its SmartGlass app, which it says will be “integral” to the new console.

The second screen companion app has been rolled out for Android, iOS and Windows Phone and will let users turn their mobile devices into a remote and a controller to be used for browsing Xbox Live, interacting with friends and checking out DVR clips from the console’s new integrated capture system on the move.

The promise for the new version of SmartGlass is great as Microsoft has worked on giving the Xbox One built-in second screen support. This should improve speed and provide a more immersive experience for users.

At launch, only a select number of games will use the potential of SmartGlass, including Dead Rising 3, Just Dance 2014, Fast & Furious 6, Battlefield 4, Star Trek Into Darkness, and Machinima, though the more titles that arrive, the more useful the mobile app will become.

“With SmartGlass for Xbox One you can use your phone, laptop or tablet as a remote to easily navigate the web on your console, turn up the volume on your TV and select a video, music or game to play,” said head of SmartGlass engineering Ron Pessner on Xbox Wire.

“We are working with all of our game and entertainment partners to build really cool experiences that take advantage of the fact that you have smart devices connected to your Xbox One.”

To make the most of SmartGlass you will obviously need an Xbox One console; however, those intending to purchase the next-gen gaming system are being encouraged to download the app now to search for games online, customize their Xbox Live dashboard, and connect with other excited gamers.

If your Xbox One is pre-ordered for November 22, head on over to your respective app store and download SmartGlass now (it’s free).
